Powder brows

Powderbrows is a popular (semi)permanent makeup technique that gives long-lasting results for beautiful, full-shaped and natural eyebrows every day. I provide a subtle color gradient from light to dark to create a soft and natural look, we also call this the ombré effect. Together we look at your facial features and determine the color and shape that best suits you and fits your needs. We can make the eyebrows fuller, longer, wider or tighter but also fill in bald spots.

I work with semi-permanent pigments, which means that the pigment used to set the powderbrows will fade over time. This gives you the flexibility to adjust your look. On average, powderbrows stay beautiful for 1 to 3 years, depending on your skin type, lifestyle and how you care for your eyebrows. With a touch-up after that time, I can refine and refresh the shape and color.

During the treatment

A powderbrow treatment consists of two sessions. The first session takes about 3 hours, including intake, preliminary drawing and the actual treatment. Only when you are completely satisfied with the shape and have given your approval will I start pigmenting.

After the treatment, you will receive clear aftercare instructions and the second session, the initial touch-up treatment, will be scheduled. This session is designed to fill in the areas where the pigment has not yet caught on properly and to further perfect the color and shape. The second session is also important to make the end result last longer.

After the treatment

After treatment your eyebrows may look darker and the skin around the eyebrow may be a little redder, this will fade within a few days. There will be a thin scab on the eyebrows that will fall off naturally during the healing process. The color that comes off underneath is lighter than the final color of the eyebrows, this is due to the process of skin renewal that takes place. It takes about 8 weeks until the full final result is visible.

Aftercare

Prior to the treatment, I will send you pre- and aftercare instructions. This is a carefully put together overview that will ensure that both the treatment and the healing process of your eyebrows is as good and comfortable as possible. I work with powderbrows using the ‘dry healing protocol’ because in my experience this gives the best results.

Are you considering powderbrows but first you want to get an impression of how this will look on you? Then book this test treatment! We go through all the steps of the powderbrow treatment but use hybrid dye instead of PMU. The dye remains visible on the skin for up to 7 days and the eyebrow hairs retain their color for up to 6 weeks. During the treatment, all your questions and doubts can be discussed.

Who are Powderbrows for?

  • Anyone aged 18 and over looking for naturally full eyebrows
  • Skin conditions that result in hair loss, such as alopecia
  • Sparse hair growth or bald spots in the eyebrows
  • Individuals with a makeup allergy or sensitivity
  • Long-lasting results: 1 to 3 years
  • Saves time in your makeup routine
  • Makes self-shaping easier because the shape is already defined
  • Perfect brows every day, even while exercising or sweating

I strive to achieve the best possible results for you! You can contribute by following the guidelines below before your treatment. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact me.

4 weeks before your appointment:

  • Do not use henna dye on your eyebrows.
  • Stop using eyebrow growth serums.

14 days before your appointment:

  • Stop plucking your eyebrows. This allows me to assess the natural shape and gives us the maximum amount of hair to work with.
  • Avoid sun exposure and tanning beds. These can damage the skin and affect the treatment.
  • Do not undergo treatments with fruit acids or vitamin A (Retinol), and avoid using creams with these ingredients.
  • Do not get Botox treatments in the forehead area.

7 days before your appointment:

  • Do not tint your eyebrows (no hybrid or regular dye).
  • Be aware that some people experience increased sensitivity during menstruation. It may be wise to schedule your appointment outside this week.

48 hours before the treatment:

  • Avoid alcohol, drugs, and painkillers such as paracetamol, aspirin, or NSAIDs (like ibuprofen). These thin the blood and can increase bleeding during treatment, affecting pigment retention. Avoid supplements like vitamin E for the same reason.
  • Avoid blood-thinning medications (always consult your physician before stopping any prescribed medication).

The day before the treatment:

  • Gently exfoliate your eyebrows and the surrounding skin with a mild scrub to remove dead skin cells.
  • Avoid coffee or other caffeinated drinks from today until the day after the treatment. Caffeine also has a blood-thinning effect and can affect the final result.

Day of the treatment:

  • Please come in wearing your normal makeup routine. This helps me understand your preferences and supports shaping the brows accordingly.
  • Eat and drink well before your appointment and make sure you’re well rested.

I strive to achieve the best possible results for you! You can support the healing process by following the aftercare instructions below. If you have questions, feel free to reach out.

We follow the dry healing protocol, which delivers the best and most lasting results. Each person’s healing is unique, and the timeframes below are indicative.

As long as the treated skin still has scabs, the following guidelines apply:

  • Keep the area dry. On average, it takes 10 to 14 days for all the scabs to fall off naturally.
  • If your brows do get wet, gently pat them dry with a clean towel — do not rub.
  • Do not pick at scabs or peeling skin. This may lead to pigment loss. Scabs must fall off on their own.
  • Do not apply any creams (day/night/SPF or others) or makeup to the treated area.
  • Avoid sun exposure and tanning beds for 4 weeks, even after the scabs have fallen off. Use SPF 50+ after healing; using it too early can gray the pigment. Wear a hat to shield the area if you must be in the sun.
  • Avoid saunas, steam baths, massages, and swimming.
  • Avoid exercising to prevent sweating.
  • Avoid touching the treated area as much as possible.
  • Do not use plasters, bandages, or wound sprays to cover the PMU.
  • Do not undergo facial treatments, chemical peels, microdermabrasion, growth factor creams, or laser treatments — these can damage the pigmented skin and cause pigment loss or burns.
  • The use of antibiotics or hormonal treatments may cause pigment to fade more quickly.
  • Full healing of the brows typically takes 6 to 8 weeks. No further treatment should be done during this time. For more mature skin, allow 8 to 10 weeks.
  • Some skin types or poor aftercare may result in greater pigment loss. In these cases, an additional touch-up may be needed (not included in the initial treatment price).
  • Powderbrows typically last 1 to 3 years, depending on skin type, lifestyle, and aftercare compliance.

Important: Contact your doctor if you experience severe redness, swelling, bleeding, discharge, color changes, or persistent pain.

As a certified and professionally trained specialist, I work under strict GGD health regulations and only use the highest quality products that fully comply with European safety standards.

There are situations in which I advise against getting powderbrows or recommend postponing the treatment. This is for the protection of your skin and to ensure I can achieve the best possible result for you.

Before the treatment, you will be asked to fill in a consent form. This includes questions that help me understand your medical history and current factors that may influence the treatment. This allows me to work safely and responsibly, and to discuss any potential contraindications with you.

The following are considered contraindications, but I am happy to assess each situation individually to see if treatment may still be possible:

  • Chronic skin conditions
  • Cardiovascular disorders
  • Hemophilia (a blood disorder that causes prolonged bleeding from wounds)
  • Immune system disorders (due to illness or medication use)
  • Allergies to pigment or other PMU materials
  • Diabetes (some patients may experience poor wound healing, which can affect results such as color retention. However, this is not the case for all and if aftercare instructions are followed, treatment is usually possible)
  • Irritated skin such as bumps, dark moles, or swelling – PMU will not be applied directly on these areas. The specialist will work around them.

In the above cases, I advise clients to consult their healthcare provider about any potential risks. I reserve the right to postpone or decline a treatment based on my professional assessment. In some cases, I may request a medical statement. However, every case is unique — so if you’re unsure, feel free to call me or schedule a free consultation to explore your options.

Healing Process

  • Days 1–3: The color appears darker and possibly a bit red right after the treatment. This is not the final result.
  • Days 3–7: Small scabs begin to form on the brows and fall off naturally. This is not a uniform process and may look a bit “patchy.” The skin will start to flake.
  • Days 7–10: Once the scabs have fallen off, up to 60% of the pigment may appear to have been lost. The remaining pigment will begin to settle into the skin. The result will be much lighter than the final outcome.
  • After 14 days: The healing process is still ongoing. The color of the brows gradually darkens and reaches its final tone and shape after about 4 to 6 weeks. After the initial powderbrow treatment, there may be irregularities in color and shape. The touch-up session is intended to perfect the brows further.

Powderbrows – FAQ

Powderbrow application is similar to tattooing. A traditional tattoo is placed in the deeper layer of connective tissue under the skin, making it permanent. With powderbrows, different pigments and a finer, smaller needle are used. This technique works in the upper layers of the skin (also known as the dermis), allowing the pigmentation to fade over time. Factors such as UV exposure and the skin’s natural renewal process influence how quickly it fades.
Microblading is a PMU technique also known as the hairstroke technique. Thin lines are manually etched into the skin using a small blade to mimic brow hairs. Powderbrows is a newer PMU method and is also referred to as ombré brows due to the natural gradient effect. The brow is shaded from light to dark, creating a soft and natural powdery finish.
Microblading is not suitable for all skin types. Because it is done manually with a blade, it carries a higher risk of scarring compared to powderbrows. The powderbrow technique uses a machine and micro-needles, providing a softer and more refined result with less risk of skin damage. It is also suitable for all skin types.
You can resume most daily activities right away. However, it’s important to avoid intense activities such as exercising, swimming, and visiting saunas for a while to avoid interfering with the healing process. More detailed information is included in the aftercare instructions you’ll receive before your appointment.
During the healing process, it’s best not to apply makeup on the treated area. Once your brows are fully healed, you can safely use makeup again—for example, to create a more intense look. Powderbrows provide a beautiful base, and many clients report using less or even no makeup at all on a daily basis.

We cannot offer a powderbrow treatment in the following cases:

  • Under the age of 18
  • If you’ve had a PMU treatment on the brows within the last 6 weeks
  • If old PMU was removed by laser less than 3 months ago
  • During pregnancy or while breastfeeding
  • If you are under the influence of alcohol or drugs
  • On a scar in the brow area that is less than 1 year old
  • If there is a laser wound in the area that has not fully healed
  • If the brow area has undergone radiation treatment in the past year
  • If you’ve used Roaccutane in the past 6 months
  • After eyelid surgery that took place less than 3 months ago
  • After Botox treatment that occurred less than 3 weeks ago
